ECM software market 2012-2016

During the second quarter of this year, The Radicati Group carried out a research about ECM market tendencies from 2012 to 2016.

According to this research, the ECM market reached $4.4 billion of size in 2012 and it is expected to grow to over $7.5 billion in 2016. We are talking about a 15% growth rate.

But these are not the only conclusions of this study. The research throws another striking forecasts:

  • The Radicati Group recommends the use of Sharepoint, but only as an underlaying platform. Companies should integrate third-party solutions on top of it, in order to get advanced features in all the ECM system's components. Trying to develop apps on top of Sharepoint is expensive (in time and money terms) to solve all the ECM issues. So, purchasing ECM solutions that are able to integrate with Sharepoint, it's definitely a better option. A good example for this is to integrate Athento Capture with Sharepoint 2013 for document capturing, instead of developing a new app on top of Sharepoint.
  • On-premise deployments continue gaining the upper hand to Cloud based ECM services. Despite of the good acceptation of cloud technologies, regarding to ECM solutions, companies are still wary and distrustful. They are not willing to keep unprotected their critical business information.
  • Companies are not longer buying all their ECM solutions to only one provider. For this reason, ECM software integration capabilities will be decisive when buying Enterprise Content Management products.
